Apparel Solutions creates Jacquard woven garment panels for Fulton’s A/W 16 collection

WhoAvery Dennison Apparel Solutions, a global leader in apparel branding, labeling, packaging, and embellishments, collaborated with womenswear and accessories designer Holly Fulton at London Fashion Week.

What: Apparel Solutions builds on two seasons of successful collaborations with Holly Fulton by pushing the boundaries to develop jacquard woven garment panels for the Autumn/Winter 2016 collection. Motivated by the jacquard woven samples in the Apparel Solutions portfolio, Fulton tasked the apparel branding leader to take the fine detailed art of jacquard weaving and incorporate it into wearable garments.

Apparel Solutions worked closely with Fulton to develop panels of jacquard weave out of its Collitex facility in Italy, recognized worldwide as a center of excellence and innovation in fabric weaving. The company used exclusive Lurex® threads to give the collection a shimmer and shine, specifically engineering the woven pieces as a series of separates.

In manipulating weaving constructions, densities and yarn materials of the past, Apparel Solutions created new aesthetics, functionalities and performance attributes for Fulton’s collection, which were prominently featured in her bra-tops, belts and playsuits. Furthermore, Apparel Solutions developed a range of chenille patches that were heat applied to parka jackets and skirts in symmetrical pattern placements.

Inspired by the visionary works of British artist David Inshaw, the collection features camo greens and rich chocolate browns borrowed from the painter’s graphic, mossy aesthetic, giving a sense of outdoors and a renewed focus on outerwear and warmth. A trip to the top of CairnGorm mountain in Scotland led Fulton to look at 70s sportswear, with a vision to recreate some of the textures and surfaces encountered during the experience.

Why: An opportunity for Apparel Solutions to continue to expand its innovation capacity and develop new solutions for the industry, transitioning from a label maker to a garment manufacturer. After working closely with Fulton on previous seasons, including the precision placement of Apparel Solutions’ printed raised silicon and heat transfer technology on her dresses, the company translated her vision to deliver a breakthrough collection for A/W 2016.

“We’re honored to continue our collaboration with Holly Fulton who continues to break new ground and implement new design techniques, including our weaving expertise,” commented Amy White, vice president of Global Branding Solutions for Avery Dennison Apparel Solutions. “Together with Holly, we will continue to look at innovative, future concepts.”

"For A/W16, our focus was on outerwear,” said Fulton. “The panels of jacquard weave we created with Avery Dennison Apparel Solutions worked into playsuits and separates, allowing us to create a modular wardrobe. The combination of flat color and metallics brought depth and definition to the collection, inspiring us to create new silhouettes and techniques - a more structured, graphic approach to functionality.”

When: Holly Fulton’s show was hosted Saturday, February 20, 2016, at 2:00pm GMT.

Where: British Fashion Council Show Space, London
