Avery Dennison supports young fashion talents

Enhancing the celebrations of the 85th anniversary of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the School of Fashion and Textiles presented its Fashion Show on August 18th, 2022. The venue was the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center and the show proved once again to be a highlight in the world of fashion. The show attracted nearly 700 guests including influential figures from the industry, famous fashion designers, media friends and fashion bloggers, while an audience of over 7,000 watched the live show online.

The Flagship program of the BA (Hon) Scheme in Fashion and Textiles presented 32 collections including those from 21 Design and Knitwear students and 11 Intimate Apparel students. This was a showcase of the talents of young designers demonstrating their innovative and unique concepts of contemporary designs.

Avery Dennison, as a diamond sponsor of the Fashion Show supports the development of young talent in the apparel industry and recognizes the huge benefits of giving them exposure and acknowledgement of their talent through this fashion show. Each year the fashion industry anticipates this event to get a glimpse of possible fashion trends from the ideas of these young designers.

Updating its name on July 1st, 2022 from Institute of Textiles and Clothing to the School of Fashion and Textile is indicative of its approach to changing trends and demands. For those wishing to pursue a career in the dynamic fashion and textiles industries, the school offers great opportunities in its education programs of technology and research. Today, over 30,000 of its alumni are working in and influencing fashion and textiles not only locally, but in China and other parts of the world. Two-way contact between the school and manufacturers ensures a continuous flow of up-to-date ideas.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Avery Dennison Best Embellishment Award, which this year went to La Sau Yi with a collection called “Til death us do part.” This was a fascinating range designed with the disabled in mind and emphasized functional apparel to overcome physical limitations and demonstrate that there is beauty in imperfect things. Avery Dennison’s retail brands sales director, Vicky Ngai, presented the award, which included a cash prize for encouragement. The award reflects Avery Dennison’s commitment to motivate young fashion talents and support the development of the apparel industry.
